switchfoot - this is your life live sessions

We spent some time in Deadwood, South Dakota last week. During that time we drove through Spearfish Canyon. While surrounded by rugged mountain cliffs, stunned by the color and timelessness of the stone around me, "This Is Your Life" came on the radio.

"This is your life, are you who you want to be?
This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
When the world was younger and you had everything to lose"

For one of the few times in my life, I was who I wanted to be. At that particular moment, the world was incredibly beautiful. It was everything I dreamed that it would be when the world was younger and I had no idea of the incredible beauty in the world.

Later we stopped at one of the waterfalls. We completely missed the sign that politely asked people not to venture off the road to get closer to the falls. We walked down a narrow trail, and from there my husband and daughter crossed a stream and continued to the foot of the falls. Not being overly coordinated, I stayed on some rocks by the stream.

There was a strong breeze, and swallowtail butterflies were everywhere. I was listening to the falls and the birds, feeling the wind in my face, loving every minute of it. Once again I found myself thinking that just for this moment, I was exactly who I wanted to be.

What a priceless moment. I hope you find those moments in your life.

Switchfoot 24

I'm starting this blog with a video that has special meaning for me. I've heard that Jon Foreman wrote this the day before his 24th birthday. That would mean he wrote it on my Mom's birthday.

I love the song and the meaning, but one line for me has a meaning special for me and others who grieve. "Life is not what I thought it was 24 hours ago". For me, those words bring me to February 26, 2006, the day a remarkable woman left us for her eternal home.
